Hair Ball and more!Nationals only 4 days away! By the way, this will be the biggest tournament ever held in Australia with over 540 competitors. (OK, so the record won’t stand for long because WUCC will smash the record, but I thought I’d mention it anyway). Here’s a recap of previous points raised about this year’s event: - Thank you to everyone who has paid, registered and so forth! If you haven’t paid – please get you butts into gear and do so. Payments are OVERDUE. I have spent an incredible amount of time chasing many teams for this and it really should not be necessary. Quite simply, if you haven’t paid you cannot play. - Party theme for Monday night party is the Hair Ball (think beehives, think Mohawks, but don’t think 1960s musicals b/c clothes are a necessity). Venue is Bar Broadway which is very close to Central Station. - Under 18s please email me or see the Admin tent at Frisbee Central for movie ticket for Monday night – unfortunately you must be over 18 to get into the Monday party venue. - The Sunday night dinner is at Easts Rugby Club in Bellevue Hills. We will have bus timetables at Frisbee Central. You may like to bring a picnic blanket and/or chair as there is a fabulous grassy area to lounge around on and enjoy the lovely autumn weather that Sydney has to offer (now I’ve said that I’ll betcha it rains…) - There will be 3 Minute Angels (massages!) floating around the dinner venue. - Please do you bit for the environment and bring your own plate and cutlery for the Finals lunch buffet. - We do not have a liquor licence. Please do not bring glass bottles to the fields (that especially means that you should use Gatorade bottles for stubby guts – NOT stubbies!) - Please try to car pool where possible b/c parking is not brilliant at the fields. AND it’s better for the environment  - AFDA AGM is on Saturday night at Randwick Rugby Club (different venue to the dinner). The much anticipated draw is being done by the AFDA so if you must see it prior to public release contact them, not me! Captains’ meeting will be at 8.20am at Frisbee Central on Saturday morning. See you all soon. Bel. Team Song - Team Bios - Action needed today - Programs going to print!Only about a third of teams have given me a team song - the playlist
is being set this week so if you want to boogie on the dance floor to
your team tunes then please let me know what song you want. 3 weeks to go!Dear All, Here is some Nationals Information. I am not on all lists, can somebody please do me a favour and cascade this down. Thanks in advance. Early Bird - Individual Fees DueIf you would like to obtain the early bird individual entry fee of $125 per person, the deadline is Monday 3 rd April. Remember that this date is an extension and as such all fees will be subject to the full fee of $135 if paid post 3rd April. Some teams have requested reduced fees for players not playing all 4 days. I am being firm on this and saying no. The reasons for this are: - The primary reduction of cost associated in not playing the full tournament is lunches. Lunches constitute a small portion of the overall player fee. If we were to vary quantities of lunch each day according to varying player lists, this creates excess work for very little financial savings. - We cannot police which days people are playing and which they are not. We do not have the manpower to fulfil this (that is, people may pay for 2 days but end up playing for 4…) - If each team had 2-3 people who wanted special consideration, this could equate to 3 people x 34 teams à a hundred cases to administratively deal with! We do not have the capacity to deal with this. - Many costs are fixed and not dependent on the number of days you play ( e.g. player pack, prizes, field hire etc.) Non-Playing feesPlease email me the number of non-player fees you are paying ($50 per head not including player pack, but including all food, parties, sunscreen, prizes) and pay it as part of your lump sum individual fees. I tried to set up a field for this on the rego page but it appears not to have worked. The FieldsThe fields are located at Queens Park in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. There are public transport directions and a map on the website. Please note that there is no dedicated parking lot at the fields. There is parking around the park, but we suggest that if you can car-pool, please do so. We will have massage therapists and St Johns at Frisbee Central. There will also be a stall from WUCC including fantastic travel ideas in Western Australia – don't forget to check it out. PartiesThe venues for the party are on the website. The two primary functions are: Dinner on Sunday night at Easts Rugby Club Bellevue Hills. This is a family friendly venue but it is licenced. If you would like to bring friends or family then I suggest you purchase a non-player fee ticket (as above). This will entitle your guest/spectator to all food during the event. We need to know numbers for catering purposes so please be honest and do not bring along un-paid guests. The party on Monday night is at Bar Broadway. This is not a junior friendly venue. You must be over 18 to attend. If your team has players who are under 18, please email me the number. We will have Hoyts movie passes that Juniors may like to use that evening, but I need to know numbers . There is a Hoyts cinema on George Street in the City, at Fox Studios near the fields (this cinema is my recommendation – it is newer and nicer!) and at Broadway Shopping Centre near Bar Broadway. The highly anticipated theme for the party will shortly be announced!!! Team Bios and Team SongsPlease forward me your team bios as soon as possible (preferably by tomorrow as that is the date I put forth last week to captains). Some teams have already registered their team song which we will hopefully (presuming it is not too obscure…) be playing at the party on Monday night! If you're having trouble thinking of songs that pep you up, selections so far include "Eye of the Tiger" by Gong boys and "Deathstar on 3. 1-2-3 Deathstar" by Deathstar…. Hmmm. Food at the TournamentWe will of course be providing lunches and fruit at the tournament. We will also provide a great meal during the finals. We will not have a formal breakfast available. However, there will be plenty of fruit available at that time. We also will have a coffee cart at the fields and the "World Famous" Pat & Sticks Icecream for sale (but not for breakfast..). The Australian Juniors are running the canteen. Please support them in their preparations for Boston USA this year. Cutlery & CrockeryWe'd like to try a slightly new option for crockery and cutlery. In the interest of reducing waste, we'd appreciate if you could pack your own plate (plastic or otherwise) and utensils for the final meal (if you forget a plate, you can always use your disc!). This is already done in some sports like rogaining and it works really well. Alcohol at the fieldsWe do not have a liquor licence to sell alcohol at the fields. You will be able to purchase drinks at all of the social functions. If you go shopping for beverages and you decide to bring them to the fields, please do not bring glass. We do not want to face the prospect of broken bottles on the fields. If you got this far, you're doing well J I'm looking forward to seeing all 550 of you in Sydney in 3 weeks time! Belinda Kinneally Registration OpenYou can register your team now at http://www.afda.com/rego/showcompetition.php?competitionid=173. Note that you must still qualify through your regional championships, but if we know you want to come it will make the allocation of spots much smoother. Venue confirmedAfter some problems with the previous advertised venue, we can now confirm the AUC2006 will be held at Queens Park in Sydney's eastern suburbs. The location, close to plenty of accommodation, party venues and of course the beaches, is sure to be a hit with all participants. |
